Mr. Spiller, who joined Park, Vaughan & Fleming LLP in May 2005, specializes in drafting and prosecuting patents on complex computer and electronics technologies. Mr. Spiller has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications relating to computer software and systems, computer hardware, and communication networks. He has prepared patents for Google Inc., Apple Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc., Synopsys Inc., and the University of California.
Before joining Park, Vaughan & Fleming LLP, Mr. Spiller completed his doctorate on “Distributed Design Data Management for Electronic Design Automation” at the University of California, Berkeley. Aspects of his dissertation work were published in the proceedings of the Design Automation Conference and the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Computer Aided Design.
Teaching And Research Experience
In his dissertation research, Mr. Spiller examined distributed data and resource management in EDA. His research project encompassed gathering of data to describe modern design characteristics and trends, which were then leveraged to model different design processes and predict future bottlenecks in the design process.
Mr. Spiller has taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students in computer architecture and EDA. He was a visiting researcher at the IBM Inc. facility in East Fishkill, N.Y., in the fall of 1997.
Related Professional Experience
Mr. Spiller possesses an extensive technical background in operating systems, distributed systems, database systems and EDA. As a software engineer and consultant for Accom Corp., he worked in the domain of embedded real-time systems used for video post-production from 1993 to 1996.
